Questions are in English; some names of laws and institutions, and quoted legal text, stay in Portuguese. We do not know yet in which languages the official test will be offered.
What this practice test covers
| Topic | Legal basis | Questions |
|---|---|---|
| History | Art. 6(1)(c) | 6 |
| Culture | Art. 6(1)(c) | 4 |
| National symbols | Art. 6(1)(c) | 5 |
| Fundamental rights and duties | Art. 6(1)(d) | 5 |
| Political organisation of the State | Art. 6(1)(d) | 5 |
The Portuguese language is also part of paragraph (c); for nationals of Portuguese-speaking countries the law presumes it (Art. 6(10)). Others may need a separate language test or certificate. This practice test does not test language.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as the official test?
No. The official format has not been published. This practice test covers the topics the law names (Art. 6(1)(c) and (d) of the Nationality Law) so you can see what to review.
Where do the answers come from?
We wrote every question ourselves and each one cites its source: mostly articles of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic (public text on the Parliament website); for history and culture, official websites or reference works such as Encyclopaedia Britannica, UNESCO and the Nobel Prize site.
What is the timed test?
25 questions in 25 minutes, with the result at the end. The 25 minutes are only a suggestion: the official time limit has not been set yet.
Is my progress saved?
Yes, only in your browser (local storage), so you can resume later, review your mistakes and see your topic mastery. Nothing is sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes it.
